About Us

Dover Middle School Instrumental Music is designed as a continuation of the 4thgrade instrumental offering at our elementary schools.  DMS Band is for students who already have an understanding of basic music reading, instrument assembly and maintenance, correct playing position and tone production. Instruction offers continued focus on the refinement of tone quality, technique, aural skills and music literacy.

Similarly, select students may have the opportunity to transition to instruments that may not have been offered in previous school experiences. These include many of the larger and/or more expensive instruments, which can be provided by the school including oboe, bassoon, french horn, baritone saxophone, euphonium and tuba. Otherwise, students and their families need to provide their own instrument.

Band meets 5 out of the 6 day rotation.    All fifth and sixth grade band students take instrumental studies in place of their general music class.  Student with no prior instrumental experience can take instrumental studies and will eventually be eligible to join the grade level band ensemble based on band teacher evaluation of the student’s readiness.

We encourage all instrumentalists to take advantage of private lessons whenever possible and recommend them as an ideal way for students with no prior or limited experience to advance and be able to participate in their grade level band ensemble.

Ensembles will perform in the Winter, March and Spring Concerts.

The success of our band program is due to the hard work of the administration, the parents, the community, the educators and most importantly, our students.
